Jester

The Jester is a playful character that lives by its wits and amuses people with its antics. The Jester is not a fighter in any typical sense of the word. Its skills are based by its charisma and not by strength or magic. In battle, the Jester is limited to one-handed yellow weapons or daggers. The Jester may only wear up to studded leather armor and may only use bucklers as shields. Jesters must have at least one bell on their costume at all time.

Skills:

Rank 2: Escape Battle - If a Jester is facing certain demise, the Jester may use his uncanny wit to escape from potentially lethal situations. For Escape Battle to work, the Jester must be 15 feet away from any opposing attacker, drop any items retrieved from the current battle (if any) and then declare "Escape from Battle ." Once the Jester has escaped, he may not return to the same battle or to the same area to re-engage battle or pick up any dropped items until the battle has been resolved. This is a battle skill.

Rank 3: Charm - In order to earn a living for one’s self, the Jester may be required to perform for an individual for wages. At a certain point the charm built up by the character may be useful in this endeavor. To perform an act of Charm, the Jester must select his target by engaging with that person in conversation for at least 30 seconds and then declaring “Charm.” At this point the Jester must perform (sing, dance, tell jokes) for the individual for an additional 30 seconds per level of the target. At the end of the routine, the individual then must pay 10% of whatever stones he carries upon his personage. Charm may not be used upon a player engaged in battle, someone inflicted with mortal wounds, or upon the same person twice in one event day. This is a battle skill.

Rank 5: Distraction - A Jester’s true opportunities lie within its abilities to distract people from noticing what is going on around them. To engage a player as a distraction, the Jester must wear a brightly colored mask (covering at least half of the Jester’s face), tap the target from behind and then declare “Distraction” to the individual. The individual is then mesmerized by the Jester and must remain within 6 feet of the performer for as long as the Jester can perform (sing, dance, tell jokes). The trance can be broken if any unaffected individual (including the Jester) comes into contact with the affected player or by the sounds of an approaching battle. The Jester may not engage Charm or Make Merriment while distracting a player. At Rank 5, the Jester may only affect one person at a time. For every Rank beyond 6, the jester may distract another player simultaneously (2 people at Rank 6, 3 people at Rank 7, etc.) up to a maximum of 10 people at one time. Distraction may not be used upon a player engaged in battle, someone inflicted with mortal wounds, or upon the same person twice in one event day. This is an adventure skill.

Rank 7: Overhear - “A friend of a friend of a friend told me…” At Rank 7, the Jester’s ability to work a room gives him the chance to find himself in possession of juicy gossip and privileged information. At Rank 7, the Jester is allowed to approach an Elder once per event day and ask two yes-or-no questions about anything going on around them. The Elder will respond honestly to the best of their knowledge. This is an adventure skill.

Level 9: Make Merriment - The Jester gains the ability to influence the behavior of people around him. To Make Merriment, the Jester engages his Charm skill upon a person and then at some point in the routine, he declares “Make Merriment” to the individual. The individual then enters into a state of happiness to the point of inebriation and cannot battle or do anything more than sing and act like a drunken fool for 5 minutes. The Jester does not get paid for his Charm skill when he engages Make Merriment. The Jester may engage Make Merriment with a total of 5 people at any given time. Make Merriment may not be used upon a player engaged in battle, someone inflicted with mortal wounds, or upon the same person twice in one event day. This is a battle skill.
